House rules
Six rules. All of them kind.
Everything here exists to protect the same thing: an easy, clean, unhurried afternoon for every man in the building.
Wash before you soak
The first law of every onsen on earth. Shower thoroughly at the wash stations before entering any bath.
Men only
Maxwell Onsen is a gay men's venue. Every guest is an adult man, and the space is built on that trust.
Respect is the house style
Interest is welcome; pressure is not. A polite no ends any conversation. Staff act immediately and without appeal on this one.
Phones stay in lockers
No phones or cameras anywhere near the baths — they stay in your locker until you're back in the lounge. Privacy is the foundation everything else stands on.
Health & hygiene
Guests over 65 or with visible skin conditions are asked to bring a doctor's clearance and sign a disclaimer. Don't visit with open wounds, infections, or while heavily intoxicated.
The water is sacred
No soap, drinks or food in the baths. Tie up long hair. Rinse between sauna and pool. The Kusatsu minerals thank you.
No booking. Just come.
The water is already warm.
